You will use the following steps to discuss and analyze a real research article. You must:

1. Find and read a real social science published research journal article. Make sure the research journal article you read is manageable in length (5-10) pages.
2. Find and discuss EACH step of the scientific method that is in the research article you have read.
3. This exercise is to be at least 375 words long.
4. Make sure you give a complete citation for the article.Citationsare also discussed in the Research Assignment directions. (If you need help use the Citation Machine (Landmark for Schools) in Websites or go to the VVC Writing Center’s website.

In the “Subject” box use “Title” of the article you read.

You MUST use the following headings of the Steps of the Scientific Method in your discussion and analysis. I should see the NUMBER and the HEADING clearlypreceedingyour discussion of that step.  If you cannot find a step(s), list the step and make sure you note that you could not find it and discuss why you think you could not find it.

Victor Valley College Library – Another place to find some real research examples is inAcademic Search Premier(replaces AcademicOneFile). Click on the link to the Victor Valley College Library.
1. Click on “Databases” in the left column. If you do not already have a password click on “APPLY FOR PASSWORD”. If you already have a user name and password click on “OFF-CAMPUS ACCESS”. (If you do not have a password you might have to wait a working day in order to receive one.)
2. Click on the “Academic Search Premier” button.
3. Enter something you would like to research into the “search” box.
4. Scroll through the listings.
5. Look only for something with “Journal” in the source. Ignore articles from non-scholarly journals such as newspapers, magazines, bulletins, etc.
6. Look only for those with the notation of “full text”. Ignore information that says citation, abstract, etc.
7. Click on titles that appear interesting to you.
8. Keep repeating this process until you find an article that is interesting to you and fits the requirements of the assignment.
