Assignment Overview

Successful teams do not just happen, they are built to work cohesively. It is important to use intentional strategies to facilitate effective working relationships among players. When teams are working well together, individual athletes and teams collectively can elevate their levels of performance.

Case Study: The coach of the Bulldogs informs you that the Bulldogs are experiencing team tension on the field. Several of the starters are neither well-liked nor well-respected by the majority of the team, and the tension between the groups is causing a split that is becoming apparent during competition. The coach has asked you to conduct an activity with the team that builds unity and trust, and enhances communication.

Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, you will construct an activity that engages the athletes and addresses the coach’s goals. You will write a brief plan with instructions and explanations for each aspect of the activity. You will give this plan to the coach for approval. If approved, the coach would like you to process the outcome of the activity with the team.

In your activity plan, you will:

• Create a unique experiential team-building activity that engages the team and holds each member’s attention.
• Explain how the activity will develop unity and trust, and enhance communication between team members.
• Describe potential pitfalls that might be encountered and possible solutions for them.
• Describe how you will facilitate this activity.
