1. Brianna Community Health Module 8

I used footprintcalculator.org to calculate my ecological foot print. My carbon footprint is 6, which is 45% of my ecological footprint and that number is 4.6%. I assumed I did not have a huge footprint (and not just because I have small feet), I just know I try to conserve energy and resources. I was surprised to see that my footprint stipulated that I would need 2.7 earths to survive! I felt so guilty thinking about this and now I recall that I used to recycle, but now I do not – I feel like a huge burden to the planet. I am willing to change my habits by putting all my water bottles in a separate bin and finding out where to discard plastic properly. I know my footprint is different than others because yesterday I dried my hands on my shirt and my friend made a comment about it but that it was cool that I didn’t use the electronic blower. I know people are inspired by my conscientiousness, because they notice and comment on how I buy cage-free and antibiotic-free eggs in the dairy section. Hopefully, when people observe my lifestyle, it encourages them to make better decisions that help reduce their ecological footprint as well.

2. Vulnerable population….

reflect on the following quote:

“The moral test of a government is how it treats those who are at the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those who are in the shadow of life, the sick, the needy, and the handicapped.” – Hubert Humphrey, 1977

Brooke posted.

There are so many individuals in our community that are living in poverty and cannot meet their needs financially. This quote means that the way the government supports and treats these vulnerable populations says everything about their moral character. In a government, you want their moral character to show fairness and respect. However, the government does not reflect well with the moral test. We should be focusing on all walks of life; children, elders, the sick, the needy, and the handicapped (Jacoby, 2006). There are so many opportunities we should be taking to help out our communities to ensure everyone has the same opportunities, but there is a lack of initiative to take a stand and make a difference in our community.
