I work in Telemetry and we have a busy unit. It can be very stressful because many of our patients have high acuity. Several patients are confused and are trying to jump out of bed. We have patients that are suffering from MI, sepsis, CHF, and pneumonia. It is rare to have an easy night. Some nights you can feel like you are drowning in work. When I see other people drowning in work, I always try to help them because I know what it feels like. Before becoming a nurse, I was a CNA. I remember how hard their job is. It is very labor intensive. I will team up with my CNA and get the baths done together. It is faster and they appreciate the help. Our unit does not have enough CNAs. We have 2 for the entire unit. It is too much work for them to do. I enjoyed reading about being a servant leader and I think it is important to lead a team in this manner. I see some nurses that will avoid giving baths and taking patients to the bathroom. Working together as a team is an important concept. Servant leaders take care of others before they take care of themselves. Helping others is contagious. Once someone helps you, you want to help them too.
