Choose ONE of the following:
1. Describe the rise of Christianity within Roman Civilization. What were its origins? How are we to account for its rising popularity during this time? What major figures (emperors, missionaries, philosophers etc.) played pivotal roles in this development?
2. Classical Greek and Roman Civilization had a great deal in common and, in particular, shared one over-arching sentiment. What term best describes the dominant frame of reference which they shared? Describe, in some detail, how this sentiment was expressed in Greek and Roman life? (In terms of how it was expressed, think in terms of culture including, but not limited to literature, philosophy, politics, architecture, military life, society and economics.)
The in-class portion will include multiple choice questions and short answer questions. Anything covered in class is potential material for these sections. The exam guide’s list of terms is a good place to start as you study.
