Biology is happening all around us, all the time. It may not make headline news every day, but it does have a presence in our every day lives. One of the goals of this class is to give you a better understanding of the concepts of Biology and how they relate to the “real world”.

Review Instructions:
Find a news article related to a topic covered in our Human Biology class. The article can be found either online, in a newspaper, or in a pertinent magazine or journal. It should not be an encyclopedia (Wikipedia type) article. This assignment is about reading Science in the NEWS! The article must be from the last 5 years (preferably, the last 2 years). Complete a “3,2,1” for each article (see instructions below).

Each article review must include the following:

A. The author’s name, the date the article was written, the title of the article, and the source of the article, as well as a very brief (1-2 sentence) overview of the article. DO NOT give me a copy of the article. If I want to read it I can use this information to find it.

B. “3”: Summarize 3 important things you learned by reading this article. You CANNOT just copy the first paragraph or a few sentences of the article and submit this as your summary. Please bullet each new thing you learned so that I can clearly read 3 different things that you learned by reading the article (1. I learned….. 2. I learned…… 3. I learned…..). It is ok if you don’t understand the whole article, just do your best!

C. “2”: Define or describe at least two terms or concepts used in the article that we have talked about in class. Do NOT just list the terms, but provide an explanation of the terms or a short discussion of the concept.
OR
Describe 2 things that surprised you. If you choose this option, remember that the 2 things that surprised cannot just be a repeat of the 3 things you learned. You must describe why you found them surprising, or how it is contrary to what you previously thought.

D. 1 question you have about or relating to the article. This could be regarding the article itself or perhaps a question about the topic in general. Put some time and thought into your question!
