The visceral pericardium is the inner layer of the pericardium which is adherent to the heart itself.

The serous pericardium is a covering of the heart that is made up of two layers: the outer layer i.e. the parietal pericardium and the inner layer i.e. the visceral pericardium. Both layers are actually continuous with each other at at the areas near the great vessels forming a small balloon like pouch enclosing the heart. Between these layers there is a small amount of fluid known as pericardial fluid which helps in the smooth movement of the heart during its pumping action.

The visceral pericardium is actually so adherent to the heart that it usually cannot be separated from the heart and is considered to be a layer of the heart itself named epicardium. Histologically it is made up of epithelial tissue.a photo I couldn’t upload here
